We have 2 kidneys. Each kidney is about 11cm long, approximately the size of a fist. They sit either side of the back bone, under the lowest ribs in the area known as the ‘flank’. The kidneys have a lot of work to do for the body. They work 24 hours a day and have 7 main jobs:
Job 1: The kidneys make urine
Job 2: They help keep us hydrated
Job 3: They help control our blood pressure
Job 4: They balance the levels of minerals in the blood
Job 5: They make sure the blood has the right acidity level
Job 6: They help make vitamin D work in the body
Job 7: They help make Red Blood Cells
