About Kidneys

We have 2 kidneys. Each kidney is about 11cm long, approximately the size of a fist. They sit either side of the back bone, under the lowest ribs in the area known as the ‘flank’. The kidneys have a lot of work to do for the body. They work 24 hours a day and have 7 main jobs:

Job 1:  The kidneys make urine

Job 2: They help keep us hydrated

Job 3: They help control our blood pressure

Job 4: They balance the levels of minerals in the blood

Job 5: They make sure the blood has the right acidity level

Job 6: They help make vitamin D work in the body

Job 7: They help make Red Blood Cells
